Project:    Efficient preparationof polymer nanoparticles via emulsion polymerization

1. Flow synthesis of nano-cluster

1.jpg

Preparation of colloidal magneticnanoclusters (MNCs) using a novel micro-mixing method, which proved to beefficient, scalable, and reliable for the controlled synthesis of monodispersedMNCs with mean size facilely adjusted from 30 nm to 200 nm and dramaticallyreduced the use of surfactants in the preparation of the Fe3O4 MNCs

2. Flow synthesis of polystyrene nano-latex

2.jpg

The mixed nonionic-anionic emulsifier TX-100/SDBS with the molar ratio of 4:1 performed much better instabilizing pre-emulsion than anionic emulsifier SDBS and guaranteed reliableoperation as well as fast and controllable conversion in tubular micro-reactorto prepare monodispersed spherical nanoparticles with PDI of size as small as 0.09

3. Kinetics and mechanism study

Evidences are provided to the generationof free radicals in micelles when using oil-soluble initiator in emulsionpolymerization. Advantages of using oil-soluble initiator in emulsifieradaptability and product control are also revealed.

4.Functional nanoparticles

  • Tween 80 coated magnetic polymernanocomposite particles (NCPs), as functional materials with good biologicalapplication prospect.

  • PVA coatedpoly(styrene-co-4-chlorostyrene) latexes and poly(styrene-co-methylmethacrylate) latexes.

  • Magnetic polymer nanocatalyst for Suzuki coupling reaction.
