Project: Enhancement of oil epoxidation process based on microreactor technology

Plasticizer is an importantchemical raw material, which is widely used, such as stabilizer for PVC,additive in medical devices and so on. Traditional plasticizers will cause harmto people's body, so it is necessary to develop new plasticizers. Natural andrenewable biomass raw materials have attracted extensive attention ofresearchers, and epoxy grease, one of its representatives, has also been widelystudied. Take epoxy soybean oil as an example, which is the only plasticizerapproved by the U.S. Drug Administration for food packaging. The more matureprocess of this kind of plasticizer is peroxycarboxylic acid method, withformic acid (or acetic acid) as oxygen carrier and hydrogen peroxide as oxygensource. After peroxyformic acid is generated, epoxidation reaction occurs withunsaturated carbon carbon double bond to realize the preparation of epoxysoybean oil, However, the product prepared by this method has the problems oflow epoxy value and poor color. In addition, the continuous preparation ofepoxy soybean oil can not be realized in the traditional batch mode. Microreactor technology is a new kind of reactor equipment. Because its dispersionscale is at the micron level, it has great advantages in process strengthening, safety and controllability, and can be operated continuously. Therefore, it isvery promising to use micro reactor technology to strengthen epoxidationreaction and realize epoxy soybean oil with high epoxy value.
